Moderism

The Jazz Age

I chose The Jazz Age because i like music and jazz is a type of music so i though why not go for The Jazz age.I think The Jazz Age might possible be about a certain year and time where jazz was very popular.I Expect this topic to be about Jazz and lots of things they did in the Jazz Age.I have a second idea that it may be about maybe it was a slang they used for a certain amount of time. Well enough of what i think it is lets find out in my next few paragraphs.

Response: To Jelly Bean

I think this story is really crazy, its a cool one to read but at time you get a misunderstanding. When first reading this story i didn't think i wanted to continue on reading it until i really sat down and focused on what the story was about.I also like how they give good description to what jelly -bean may look like.Jelly Bean or should I say Jim was a very nerves and shy person. When he was younger he had a friend that he could relate to. I know that there are plenty kids that goes and went threw the same things as Jim.

One thing about jelly bean is he doesn't like to talk to much. This story kind reminds me of Forest Gump and Foot Loose in one.But as you read a little more you start to see a change in ole jelly bean.Jelly Bean (Jim) comes out of his shell.Later on Jelly Bean turns his house into a pool hall where people can come & he can interact with everyone who is on the same level as him.Over all this is a good story its a life experience for some people.

A Little about the story:

Jelly Bean is a nick name for a boy named Jim, who lived in Jelly Bean Town. He was born in a white house on a green corner in jelly bean town. Jelly Bean a.k.a( Jim)was a quiet person and kind. Jim ( jelly Bean) was an outsider a running made of poor whites. Jim had a friend who was going through similar things in life. But along with his life came along many other things his family owned some ground that they didn't even know about.Around the age of 15 He went to high school like a typical teenager would and had black snarl ( curls) of hair somewhat like an outsider would be at my school, not only that but he was afraid of girls. For a little change in his pocket he he kept odd jobs due to this he stopped going to parties. Later own Jim was 18 years old and was practically a grown man. At this time the war had broken out and Jelly Bean enlisted as a gob & polished brass in the Chars ton Navy- yard for a year and did the same thing in Brooklyn NY for another whole year. But let me move on to what happened later on in his life in the next paragraph.

After coming back from his little mission out of the state he goes out for a minute on the way back he runs into an old friend . This old friend went threw the same things as jelly Bean during child hood but things had changed with him. But back to the story Jelly bean (Jim) was on his way back and as he walks along the side walk his old buddy drives up beside him and ask Jim would he like a ride back to his designation. On this little ride back Jim's friend describes how things has changed in his life and asks Jelly Bean would he lie to go to a party later on that night.Jelly Bean considered it but him and little buddy had a pack though if something didn't fell right to him. So while at the party jelly Bean sits there and at a split second the girl jelly Bean always liked walks out looking fly as ever and after her appearance was her new friend/ or should i say her boyfriend and all of the joy that was inside went away. Well to make it a little shorter jellybean later changed and became a cool guy. Later on he turn the place into a pool hall and was no longer the outsider. In all this is about a really good card gambler who was very good at what he did. Jim (Jelly Bean) is the Best In Georgia.

My Response to the poems:

Richard Corey's poem is so sad it seem that he had every thing that he wanted but that wasn't what had made him happy. Richard had it all he had fame and fortune but i don't think that all matterd.Mr.Corey had to be a solemn person because he had to be a sad person to have committed suicide. Some people would say they would be happy to have it but another may think different. I think it's sad, it shows you that when you have fame and fortune it doesn't always make you happy. This makes you think twice when you read it again it makes you think did he have any family. Not only that what made him commit suicide. This is a Part of Modernism because it's social problem is the fact someone you may have thought was happy must not be because he committed suicide.

Mending Wall

his poem I'm not really feeling. This poem is crazy i am so confused with what is going on.The only thing i can understand about this poem is about the animals and that they are tying to block something from getting to a certain place. So my opinion on this is not as good i am confused maybe if i read along with someone or if some one can explain it to me i can leave a better response. What I honestly think they are talking bout is how your neighbors cross a line and it makes you act annoyed. This is a social problem because you have neighbors who are like that for real." Why do they make good neighbors?" or Stay where you are until our backs are turned." are good quotes that can back your response to the poem.

A dream Deferred

I can understand the meaning of this poem. From my point of view of what i think it is it's saying what yo dreams do when they don't come true what happens to the dram the goal that you set.Dose this mean that your dreams just flush down the the drain there can be so many explanations of this poem and what they want people to think about the poem.A great quote that can comfort what i am talking about is: "dose it dry up like a raisin in the sun?'' This is a quote that point out what i am trying to say.

The Negro Speaks of Rivers

Personally i think this is really interesting. To all the African Americans this is more understandable to the older crowed.Langston Hughes is a great writer anyway all of his poems hits a spark in someone. But i really like this poem." My soul has grown deep like the rivers." Something others might not understand but to the older generation it's understandable.

Incident

This poem is kinda disturbing because African Americans already had bad experiences coming up in life and for someone to write a poem of a bad experience they had in life while visiting another state its kinda sad that the person had to experience that and that's all they could remember from a trip to Baltimore. Two quotes that points out the main idea that i am trying to get across are:" He poked out his tongue & called me '' Nigger", or the quote when he states "That's all that I remembered." Thats stating a social problem something that has changed but still see till this day.

Realism

A story of an Hour.
A lady known by the name of Mrs. Mallard gets some bad news one day. On this one day the bad news was the death of her husband. Mrs.Mallard was told the bad news from her sister and her husbands friend. At once when she was told the death of her husbands she wept with sadness. As she began to walk away to her room where she did not want any one to follow her she looks at a roomy armchair facing an open window.Out of grief and sadness she sits there and sinks down into the chair. But there is a twist to this. Just to make things short Mrs. Mallard was kinda happy that her husband had passed away because of things that happened in the past with the way he treated her. But just when you think things are over some other surprise burst the bubble of allot. Once when you think things have calmed down it hasn't after hearing the death of her husband and feeling some sorrow but happiness she had start dealing with some issues to. Mrs. Mallard finds out her husband isn't dead after all . So when Brantley Mallard Mrs. Mallard husband comes home and she realizes he hasn't been in an accident ;He didn't even know that it had been one. When he came back it was to late Mrs. Mallard had passed away. Doctors say due to heart disease, of joy that kills.
A social Issue that wanted to solve.
Men should not miss treat women, this is a part of realism because this was and still is an issue fro woman that needs to be solved and fixed, an example of today between the difference of men and women is that men can become president but women cant. Till this day we still have social issues.

"The Battle with Mr. Covey."
One specific thing that points out here is this is a story about slavery one good quote that came out and upon us was; "You have seen how a man was made a slave; you shall see how a slave was made a man."
Frederick Douglas the author of his writing wanted people to see that slavery was a problem, this is what you call realism which in this case we have a problem with slavery. This problem we have needs to be fixed. If this situation was left up to the romantics they would not want you to see the truth they would make it something of an imagination that's the difference between the two. Realist wanted to to see that this are things that are happening in real life that's actually going on; But Romantics wanted you to think differently like it was made up. Realism is focused the social part of life. But when it all falls down as a slave was treated he was getting beaten constantly until one day he got fed up with getting beaten and began to fight back but was unpublished because he was only 16 years old and his master MR. Covey didn't want a bad reputation. So for this he was never punished physically. He just remained a slave for four more years.

A social Issue that needs to be solved:
Is that black men and women were treated unequally . It needs to be solved to the point we are treated equally. This is a social problem because this was something that was really happening but was later fixed.
