The blessing that came to me when I was having a hard time in life was Communities in Schools who brought Classic City Performance Learning Center to me. I had death in my family, and school was not going well. Communities in Schools and Classic City Performance Learning Center are a blessing. The things they did helped me get back on the right track in life and in school. School at my old school, Cedar Shoals was hard because I had to deal with problems at home and then the drama at school. It was not good for someone who is going through so much. Dealing with these things affected me badly in school. Here at Classic City Performance Learning Center, I found a place where I can turn everything around and make something good out of my problems, and out of my life.
My sophomore year at Cedar Shoals was hard for me. I was juggling three tragedies at once. Both of my nephews, five and one months old, died in the hospital only two years apart. I also had to deal with the death of love between my mother and father. They were going through a divorce, and it was final on my sixteenth birthday. My troubles didn’t end there; I was also having a hard time at school. I started letting these things effect me terribly. My grades dropped, and I missed so many days I had no credits. My returning back to school was going to get me and my family out of the lifestyle we were living. These things were going to get started by me going to school getting my diploma and pursuing my dreams.
At a certain point in my life I realized I had to get my life together, and going back to school was only the beginning. That’s when my blessing came along and I was told about Communities in Schools. I wanted to be at a place that would enable students like me, whose academic success had been threatened, to become successful students. On March 26, 2007 I became a PLC student. I am so happy and proud to be a PLC student till this very day. I love the way the school is because I feel like an adult who is respected greatly. A few things I love the most about PLC is the fact that they allow you to work on computers at your own pace. The teachers here at PLC help you one- on -one unlike other schools. I also like the fact there am no school on Fridays. The best feature of all is that they have a day care for single mothers who want to come back to school.
Ever since I have stared at Classic City PLC I became a student of many values. I must say that this is a blessing. When I graduate, I want to give my utmost respect, honor and more to Communities in Schools. I plan to go to college and become a big time model, dancer, singer or maybe even a fashion designer. Whatever my outcome is, when I become rich; I want to donate money to Communities in Schools and Classic City Performance Learning Center. I will never forget how my life changed thanks to Communities in Schools and Classic City Performance Learning Center.

Hi Chitara,
My name is John Bishop and I'm in the Red Clay Writing Project. I just read your post and it gives me some inspiration to read that you were able to pick up the pieces after several tragedies in your life. My sister and her husband just went through a divorce, and they have two little children. It continues to be tough on my family, but we're taking it day by day. I'm glad that Communities in School has been a positive experience for you. I'm curious, what did they do specifically that helped you? Thanks for sharing your writing. John Bishop
